Rose McLachlan – Thursday 11th July, 12 noon

Our first lunchtime concert for emerging artists is brought to us by the familiar face of Rose McLachlan, who delighted our audience in 2023 with her first appearance at RVIPW. Rose is a Talent Unlimited Artist who is continuing her studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Rose’s programme opens with two extremes of Mozart’s writing. The Fantasia No.3, based on the spirit of free improvisation, paired with Sonata No.18, Mozart’s last sonata of all which, whilst tuneful and lighthearted, demonstrates dazzling contrapuntal craft. Rose then moves towards the 20th century, pairing works by Janáček and Rachmaninov with folk influences: (Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, is actually based on “La Folia” (“Madness” an old Iberian folk dance tune) and the Variations toil and climax, but conclude in states of reflection.

This concert will be followed by a Masterclass at 2pm.
